Community Resources
Here at Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, our mission is serving pets and the people who love them. We provide a variety of resources to assist people with their pets - check them out below!
Pet Pantry
At LTBHS, we are committed to meeting pets and their people where they are without judgement. We understand life can be unpredictable and we want to provide support wherever possible. Our Community Pet Pantry offers essential pet food, supplies, and resources to keep every pet well-fed and cared regardless of personal circumstances their family may be facing. We believe that no one should have to choose between caring for their pets or caring for their family and we strive to find innovative ways to keep people and their pets together. To ensure the program's sustainability, we use donations from our community to ensure the pantry is stocked for those who need it most. Please consider a donation to the Pet Pantry today.
Our Pet Pantry is available Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm at the shelter. We do not require proof of need, and we invite anyone to utilize this resource when they need it. For more information, please call the shelter at 231-347-2396.
Stray or Lost Pets
If you have found a pet in Emmet County, you need to contact animal control at 911. Stray animals found in Emmet County are taken to the Emmet County Stray Center, located at 4039 Charlevoix Ave. (next to Jensen’s Animal Hospital). It is important that all found animals are taken to this facility immediately to aid in being returned to their owners.
For stray animals found in other counties, it is recommended you contact your animal control or non-emergency dispatch line for assistance.
Low Cost Spay/Neuter
Little Traverse Bay Humane Society offers a Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program that is not only affordable to pet owners, but make a huge impact on the local pet population by reducing the number of unwanted litters in the area. For more information on our Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program, click here.
We are able to assist the community with overpopulation of animals and to prevent unwanted litters with the help of our generous supporters who contribute to the Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Fund.
Animal Surrender
Animal surrenders are accepted on a case by case basis as space is available. To request rehoming an animal, please call 231-347-2396.
Surrendering your pet should be a last resort. Before you consider, please read the information below.

Re-homing is when an owner finds a new home for their pet on their own and that pet goes directly from their current home to their new home. LTBHS offers a Private Rehoming section on our website (click here) that allows pet owners to network their animals who are needing new homes.
Rehoming is a great option because you can decide the best fit for your animal, and keep kennels open at your nearest shelter for animals in more critical need.
