Little Traverse Bay Humane Society Offers Emergency Support for Pets Impacted by Flooding; Launches Mutual Aid Fundraiser with Cheboygan County Humane Society
Harbor Springs, MI (April 13, 2026) — In response to recent flooding impacting Northern Michigan communities, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society (LTBHS) and Cheboygan County Humane Society (CCHS) are providing emergency support for owned pets affected.
Both organizations are offering access to pet supplies, resources, and temporary boarding for owned animals whose families have been affected by flooding. Pet owners in need of assistance are encouraged to contact the organizations directly.
In addition, LTBHS is working closely with Cheboygan County Humane Society (CCHS) to assess ongoing needs and coordinate response efforts across county lines. Residents in Cheboygan County are encouraged to contact CCHS as their primary point of contact for assistance at (231) 238-8221. Emmet County and surrounding area residents are encouraged to contact LTBHS for resources and support at 231-347-2396. As conditions continue to evolve, both organizations remain committed to supporting pets and the people who love them.
“To our neighbors facing the uncertainty and stress that comes with an emergency like this—please know you are not alone,” said Elise Ramsey, Executive Director of Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. “We are here to provide support, remove barriers, and do everything we can to keep pets safe and families together during this time.”
LTBHS is also encouraging pet owners to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies and protect their animals:
Make an emergency plan for your pets, including preparing carriers, food, medications, and a safe evacuation plan.
Keep pets identifiable by ensuring they are wearing a collar with ID tags and that microchip information is up to date.
To further support emergency response and recovery efforts, LTBHS has launched a mutual aid fundraiser benefiting both organizations. Funds raised will directly support supplies, temporary housing, and care for pets impacted by the flooding. Fifty percent of all proceeds will be shared with Cheboygan County Humane Society to assist with their local response efforts.
